Bilateral trade between the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and Tanzania is going to increase tremendeously, following an establishment of a Congolese Cargo Terminal (CCT) in Dar es Salaam.
Speaking shortly before signing an agreement to establish the terminal in Dar es Salaam on Thursday evening, the Managing Director of the Congolese Exports and Imports Regulatory Authority (OGEFREM), Louise Mayuma, said that the terminal would speed up businesses between the two countries.
Mayuma stated that the establishment of CCT in collaboration with the Tanzania Road Haulage (1980) Limited, would guarantee security to Congolese exports and imports.
’’Congolese exports and imports will now be handled quickly, especially clearing and forwarding of the goods by the CCT,’’ she stated.
The absence of such a terminal had contributed to the delay and loss of goods destined for and from the DRC.
’’I sincerely commend our DRC Embassy here in Tanzania for facilitating the establishment of this handling facility of Congolese exports and imports,’’ she said.
Mayuma called on Congolese traders, exporters and importers to seriously exploit the opportunity of having a special terminal for handling their goods in Dar es Salaam.
’’We, in the OGEFREM, will facilitate business transanctions on exports and imports, especially by offering appropriate and up-to-date information on goods,’’ she noted.
Mayuma said that her authority would strive to cement bilateral relations with the TRH from time to time.
The Congolese Ambassador to Tanzania, Juma Mpango, said that the signing of the agreement between TRH and OGEFREM was a clear indicator of the deep commitment in bilateral trade between the two countries.
He said that establishment of CCT would restore confidence in Congolese businesspeople to trade seriously with their Tanzanian counterparts.
’’Our Embassy is committed to work closely with TRH in ensuring that CCT operations are always carried out smoothly,’’Ambassador Mpango said.
The TRH Managing Director, Anwar Dharamsi, promised that the CCT would be making surveillance on exports and imports to the DRC and overseases via the Dar es Salaam port.
Since its establishment in 1980, his company has been dealing with clearing and forwarding cargo destined for all land-locked countries in the Southern Africa Development Community (SADC).
’’Tanzania has been the safest place in transportation of cargo in the central, eastern and southern Africa.
TRH is ready to help neighbouring countries, including DRC to transport their goods, and thus, reduce poverty among their populations,’’ Dharamsi stated.
